Samsung Galaxy Z series foldable phones account for less than 2% of national retail volume

Samsung goes slim with the S25 Edge

Samsung has taken the wraps off its much-awaited new flagship, the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is now available for pre-order in the U.S. The standout feature is the phone’s extraordinarily slim body (just 5.8mm thick compared to the regular S25’s waist size at 7.2mm) wrapped in a tough titanium frame with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on both sides. Under the hood, the new S25 Edge runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, paired with 12GB of RAM. The 6.7-inch AMOLED display delivers 120Hz refresh rate. The phone has a 200MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide shooter, matching the rest of the S25 family. The S25 Edge boasts a 3,900 mAh battery, which almost matches the 4,000 mAh battery featured on the regular S25.

The new S25 Edge carries a $1,099 price tag and is now available for pre-orders. As in the case with other flagship debuts, early adopters pre-ordering the phone will enjoy a free storage upgrade to the 512 GB version. The phone will be commercially available beginning May 30th

The Circana Take:

  • The Galaxy S25 Edge is yet another bold design play from Samsung, one of the few smartphone brands still injecting visual excitement into a largely standardized industry.
  • Like the Z Fold and Z Flip series, the ultra-thin S25 Edge is impressive in engineering terms—but it’s likely to remain a niche offering. Many consumers drawn to standout hardware are already on the Z series platform, which narrows the addressable market for a premium slim phone. In that sense, the S25 Edge feels more like a design showcase than a volume driver, especially at a time when consumer sentiment rounds out the bottom due to uncertainties in the economy.
