Paramount forms new sports division
Paramount is developing a new sports division called Paramount Sports Entertainment. The division will produce programming for its own platforms like Paramount+ as well as third-party media companies and streaming services and will also develop interactive games and experiences. PSE will also work with leagues, brands, athletes, and creators and be home to Skydance Sports, the joint venture with the NFL that produced films including Prime Video’s Air and Netflix’s America’s Team.
The Circana Take:
- Paramount is positioning itself as a source of sports content while giving fans another reason to stay with Paramount+.
Disney+ adds new perks
Disney+ is adding four new rewards to its Perks program which launched in May. The program gives subscribers free benefits including offers and discounts. The program now has about fifteen rewards to choose from. One new reward is an exclusive offer for a “Lilo & Stitch” vinyl record which includes music from the new movie and is Stitch-shaped. This is great for vinyl collectors, which has seen a resurgence in recent years. Subscribers get a 20% discount and an exclusive lithograph with purchase. Another offer is a chance to win a trip to the premiere of “Tron: Ares” in LA. Winners get to walk the red carpet for the film, plus a three-day, two-night trip to L.A., including accommodations and transportation. The other new perks are a chance to win a trip to New York Comic Con, and tickets to the United States Grand Prix Formula 1 race in Austin.
The Circana Take:
- In this saturated market, companies are looking for ways to differentiate and keep subscribers engaged. Disney continues to increase the value of its streaming service beyond programming, something few of its competitors can do.
