Hulu launches animation hub

Hulu is launching a hub for all its adult animation and anime content called Animayhem. Their current roster includes legacy content such as Bob’s Burgers, Futurama and King of the Hill and original content including Solar Opposites and Koala Man. Hulu is advertising the platform as the streamer’s “Animation Destination” which offers access to over 20,000 cartoon episodes spread across 500 series. The launch of Animayhem comes a couple of weeks ahead of the latest Futurama reboot. The hub will be available as part of the standard Hulu subscription and will make it easier for users to find and discover content.

The Circana Take:

  • The timing for the hub seems right as anime and adult animation is at an all-time high in popularity.

Disney+ released classic shorts

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, Disney released a batch of newly restored classic shorts on Disney+. Some shorts include Trolley Troubles, All Wet, The Skeleton Dance and Goofy and Wilbur with iconic stars Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Chip n’ Dale, and the studio’s first star, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The next installment of shorts is coming in August.

The Circana Take:

  • Look for Disney to leverage all of its assets as it gears up for the 100th anniversary.

Prime Video Channels deals

For Prime Day 2023, Amazon offered select deals on Prime Video streaming channels slashing subscription prices to $1/month and 50% off full price. Channels with a $1 promotion include Starz, Cinemax, PBS, and Noggin while the 50% offer applies to Paramount+ and AMC+. These deals are limited to two months, which would allow enough time to try the channels out before the full price goes into effect. For those that don’t want to be locked in, you can cancel by opting out prior to the end of the promotion.

The Circana Take:

  • As many streamers continue to raise subscription costs, viewers are looking for cheaper options. This should entice them to sign-up at least for the short term.
