SwitchBot Smart Lock Update

SwitchBot launched a new version of its retrofit lock. The SwitchBot Lock Pro offers a couple upgrades over the previous version (the SwitchBot Lock) including a more refined installation process, an aluminum alloy body and quicker lock/unlock capabilities. Rather than replacing an entire lock system, retrofit locks attach to the existing deadbolt and turn the mechanism when connected. An added keypad and hub bundle includes fingerprint, NFC tag, and keypad unlocking as well as compatibility with every major smart home hub via Matter.

The Circana Take:

  • SwitchBot continues to stand out with their mechanical smart home products. And as new companies enter the market smart lock sales have maintained their growth trend.
  • SwitchBot’s unique approach to smart technology along with the Lock Pro’s updated features will appeal to some consumers looking for lock solutions that minimize installation.

Bird Buddy Launches a Smart Hummingbird Feeder

Bird Buddy recently added to its line of Smart Birdfeeders introducing the $239 Smart Hummingbird Feeder.  The Smart Hummingbird Feeder uses the same built-in AI and camera module technology as Bird Buddy’s original bird feeder, however it is specifically designed to attract and identify over 360 species of hummingbirds. Using Bird Buddy’s smart feeder, users can view up-close images and livestreams using the HD camera – which offers a 120 degree field of view and the ability to view footage from a laptop or mobile  device.

The Circana Take:

  • Though smart bird feeders are not security cameras, the products employ smart camera technology in innovative ways. The use of AI in identifying animals adds a unique value to these products which could feasibly double as security devices.
