Netflix cracks down on sharing
In a bid to continue cracking down on password sharing, Netflix has introduced a new feature called “Manage Access and Devices”. This new setting will allow users to view who accessed their account, when and where they did it from, and what devices they are using. Account holders can then remove access for these users. The new feature is perfectly times for the holiday travel season, when users may log in to their account at a hotel or friend’s house, and then forget to log out afterwards. Using this new tool they can subsequently log out, even when access to the device is no longer available, without having to log off every single attached device at the same time.
The NPD Take:
- Netflix has realized how many users are sharing passwords and accounts, thus dampening their subscriber numbers. This along with the recent announcement of profile transfers is their attempt to begin cracking down on this tactic while allowing current subscribers a seamless experience.
Paramount+ is growing
Paramount+, Paramount Global’s almost two-year-old streaming service, saw its biggest signup day ever last weekend. On Sunday, NFL week 10 football coverage, the premiere of new Sylvester Stallone crime series Tulsa King, and the debut of season 5 of popular drama series Yellowstone drove a record number of new signups. National Football League games have been airing on Paramount+ all season, driving viewers to the platform. Hitmaker Tyler Sheridan had two seasons release the same day, including a new crime drama starring Sylvester Stallone and Andrea Savage, which will be releasing episodes weekly starting last Sunday. The streamer added 4.6 million paid users in Q3, bringing the total subscriber number to 46 million; and this number grew again last week with these new premiers.
The NPD Take
- Exclusive content can help bring viewers to a new streamer, and the availability of NFL games and a new season of a favorite series may have helped drive viewers there even more.
