Fubo to expand bundle pricing and packaging
Fubo plans to roll out new content bundles at various price points this year to expand its live streaming footprint. Details have not yet been released but are expected to include a skinny broadcast and sports offering previously announced in January when Disney acquired Fubo. The sports and broadcasting bundle is expected to launch in the fall and will feature a plethora of professional and college sports. The bundle will include Disney’s ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2. Fubo recently branched out further into non-sports content: last quarter, it bundled Hallmark+ as a standalone or add-on subscription.
The Circana Take:
- With Fubo’s sports focus coupled with Hulu’s general entertainment value Disney is looking to product packaging that will advance the services’ position against market leading YouTube TV.
YouTube TV app redesign
The YouTube TV app will get a big redesign in a few months that includes paid subscriptions from other streaming services on the homepage. Currently, you can only access paid content from other services via Movies and TV tab of the YouTube app, making it difficult for viewers to locate. The redesign also lets creators display their videos in seasons and automatically play previews of shows. This will allow users who search for content on the app to locate it quicker and more efficiently regardless of if it is from a Primetime Channel or creator. YouTube TV also plans to add more content from third party streamers which it began doing in 2022. Of note, Prime Video already offers a similar integration with anew tab at the top of the screen showing all the content included with the Prime Video subscription.
The Circana Take:
- The unique value here is capturing the younger audience watching creator programming and integrating that experience with paid SVOD services. To date there has been limited blending of these assets and this move is clearly aimed at advancing YouTube’s dominant streaming position.
