30% of viewers increased engagement due to ease of search and discovery

Samsung plans to launch aggregated FAST channel

Samsung TV+ will launch the Samsung Television Network - a new FAST channel that aggregates the most viewed content on its streaming service into a single channel available 24/7. Content includes episodes from David Letterman and Conan O’Brien, series including Killing Eve, plus live sports, and other events such as the Jonas Brothers’ upcoming tour. This format is different than other FAST channels, with most being genre or show specific. With over 700 channels and on-demand content available, this aims to make search and discovery less overwhelming.

The Circana Take:

  • Solving the search and discovery challenge is among the largest needed to increase FAST engagement. This new channel aggregate gives viewers a landing place that may have a higher chance to keep their attention.

Netflix revamps homepage

Netflix will be updating its home page to create more personalized and intuitive search. Netflix viewers will have more content information, including whether the show was an award winner or highly ranked to help aid in choosing content. Other updates include search shortcuts, user favorites, and real-time recommendations. Netflix is also exploring options to incorporate AI into search functions using natural conversational phrasing such as “I want to watch something scary and suspenseful.” It is currently in beta testing on Apple iOS devices.

The Circana Take:

  • Streaming services are relying more on UI upgrades to maximize engagement with their programming. A critical evolution as programming costs rise and viewers have more alternative channel options.

Pluto TV adds anime

In May, Pluto TV is adding anime on-demand content and new channels. Over 800 hours of anime programming will be added for streaming 24 hours a day, including popular series. New on-demand content includes over 120 movies and 50 series such as “Inuyasha: The Final Act” and “Bleach: Hell Verse.” FAST channels include Anime X HIDIVE, Pluto Anime Comedy, and Inuyasha. This is great news for anime fans as they will be able to binge a plethora of content for free.

The Circana Take:

  • Anime has gone mainstream, and Pluto TV aims to capitalize on this growing segment by bulking up content.
