41% of HBO Max subscribers consider it a must-have service

 

HBO Max renews A24 streaming contract

HBO Max and A24 renewed a multi-year licensing agreement that features the studio’s films exclusively on HBO and HBO Max. HBO Max subscribers will have access to A24 movies including Oscar nominated “Marty Supreme” once it hits streaming, “The Moment” with Charli XCX and a plethora of other films. HBO Max also offers movies from Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios and Turner Classic Movies, including “One Battle After Another,” “Sinners,” “It,” “The Conjuring” and “Final Destination.”

  • HBO continues to ensure Max is a destination for movie lovers, a decades long legacy that has proven to attract subscribers. 

Sports Illustrated debuts new streaming channel

Sports Illustrated launched SI TV, a new 24/7 FAST channel featuring original programming, live events, sports lifestyle, and library content. Also included is behind-the-scenes content from Sports Illustrated cover shoots, daily betting insights, and the latest Mountain West Conference Network event coverage. Moreover, there are docuseries, podcasts, live games, and studio programming that bring viewers behind the scenes of sports coverage. SI TV is available on Amazon Fire TV, DIRECTV, Sling Freestream, Plex, and launching soon on The Roku Channel.

The Circana Take:

  • Sports programming continues to migrate to streaming, as such, Sports Illustrated is looking to take advantage of this with a FAST launch. With SVOD prices constantly rising, this could be attractive free programming.

Netflix and Sony partnership

Netflix and Sony Pictures signed a multi-year global Pay-1 licensing agreement giving Netflix the streaming rights to Sony feature films, following their theatrical and home entertainment windows. The new Pay-1 deal is set to slowly roll out later this year as rights become available in individual regions, with full global availability on Netflix in early 2029. The deal also gives Netflix licensing rights to select Sony feature film and television library content. Titles that will stream on Netflix include “The Nightingale,”The Legend of Zelda,”Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” and Oscar winner Sam Mendes’ Beatles films.

  • While the WBD acquisition is still looming, Netflix continues to position itself as the go-to-source for global movie content.
