Samsung Eases Matter Set Up

Samsung is rolling out new products and services on its devices to help take advantage of Matter.  Last week, the company announced ‘Matter Easy Pair’ a way to scan nearby connected devices to see if they are Matter compatible. Like the Nearby Device Scanning feature that lets users find other Galaxy devices in the vicinity, ‘Matter Easy Pair’ shows up as a pop-up smartphone notification when a Matter device is detected. Users can click the notification and connect to Matter immediately.  The feature has already started to roll out to users via the Galaxy Store.

The NPD Take:

  • With more technology providers making changes to their mobile apps to accommodate Matter, it is no surprise that Samsung added this feature to its mobile operating system.
  • As Matter spreads to more devices and operating systems, it will be increasingly important to highlight the technology and make using it frictionless. Expect more brands to implement their own versions to quickly identify Matter products to their devices and mobile applications.

Generac Unveils New Products

Generac, owner of Smart Thermostat brand Ecobee, recently announced the release of two connected home power products. The Generac EV charger is a Level 2 home charger for electric vehicles that can charge a car battery fully in four to six hours. The unit’s connector is out of the box compatible with nearly all EVs on the market today and it is rated for indoor and outdoor residential installation.  The company also announced a line of Wi-Fi and cellular connected home standby generators that can easily integrate with ecobee’s line of Smart Thermostats.  The combination creates a single energy management system for the home.

The NPD Take:

  • Via EV purchases and Smart Thermostat adoption, consumers continue to show that saving money by conserving energy is an ongoing priority. However, smart home energy monitors, home batteries and other devices for regulating power consumption are not widely available on the retail market.
  • With a suite of home energy solutions helping consumers use and spend less on energy, Generac is providing a unique service to consumers and hitting on a vital household need.
