Eve Rolls out Matter

Smart Home company Eve was an early champion of Matter and last week announced the availability of Eve Energy, the firm’s first product with Matter integration. The new smart plug sports a Matter logo on the box and Eve’s website indicates the product is interoperable across the major smart home ecosystems. Eve Energy is available now for purchase.  The company also announced a firmware update would bring Matter to existing Eve products by April 17.

The Circana Take:

  • While some companies have pulled back from Matter for competitive reasons, Eve continues to invest in the specification. Eve’s early move on Matter and the subsequent publicity and brand recognition from it should help drive early sales - gaining the brand a foothold in more consumers’ homes.

Google/ADT Partner Up On Security

Google and ADT have teamed up on a DIY security package called ADT Self Setup. The set up allows consumers to choose popular Google devices to integrate into a customizable ADT security system.  Customers can include products such as Nest Cams and Thermostats, Nest Mini, Nest Hub Max, and Nest Doorbells with ADT motion sensor and home hubs.  Pricing for the package depends on its configuration.  A base package starts at $215 plus a $25 monthly fee for ADT SMART monitoring. A pre-configured starter bundle begins at $336 and includes Nest Doorbell, four ADT Door & Window Sensors, two motion sensors, and the ADT Smart Home Hub.

The Circana Take:

  • This package offers consumers the security of ADT’s service with Google’s popular hardware options. With approximately 60% of US households owning at least one smart home device, security companies can make their offerings more appealing by integrating with pre-existing devices in the home.
