Brilliant Adds a Smart Home Controller

Brilliant introduced the Brilliant Plug-In Smart Home Control panel, a touchscreen allowing for convenient management of smart devices in the home.  The screen allows users to control lights, thermostats, locks and other connected home products from a central location. While Brilliant’s controller can be used with most of the major smart home platforms on the market, it does not currently support Matter.  The control panel costs $399 and is available now.

The Circana Take:

  • As users accumulate more connected devices in the home, the challenge of managing the products will arise. Though smart displays can fill this role, dedicated products like control panels offer a convenient way to access the devices across rooms in the house.
  • Compatibility across platforms will be a key feature for these products going forward, making Matter compatibility important.

Leviton Launches New Smart Home Devices

Leviton announced new home energy products earlier this month including the Matter compatible Decora smart Wi-Fi plug. The new outdoor plug can monitor energy usage and allows for remote control via the Leviton app.  Decora is designed to withstand the elements and will work in extreme cold (down to -20 degrees) and extreme heat (up to 122 degrees). The release is part of a broader strategy from Leviton to offer smart home energy management to consumers.

The Circana Take:

  • Leviton is looking to offer solutions as more consumers manage their energy usage to save money.  This is still a nascent product category in smart home, however as more households invest in solar energy, energy management products will become more widely available.
  • Leviton distinguishes itself from the wider field as well by making their device compatible with Matter since most households own connected devices from multiple ecosystems.
