Nuki Enters the Smart Lock Market

Austrian company Nuki launched a Matter over Thread smart lock, the company’s fourth generation retro-fit lock.  This lock is intended for European style doors and integrates Matter with no bridge or module required. The lock comes in two versions and supports direct integrations with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and platforms such as Home Assistant and Home Bridge, alongside Matter.

The Circana Take:

  • The smart lock market is seeing sustained growth heading in to Q4 as new brands and products enter the market. Though the Nuki system is intended mostly for European style doors and locks, the addition of Matter over Thread will be a unique selling point on the retail market.

Ring Adds to the Holiday Fun

In time for the holidays Ring has launched a list of new Quick Replies for its video doorbells. The replies, inspired by The Grinch, are voiced by SNL actor Austin Johnson and can be added to the device via the Ring app. There are six replies to choose from and the replies come up when triggered by a visitor at the door.

The Circana Take:

  • Ring’s quick replies are a way to generate interest in the product and drive engagement among current users.  We are beginning to see some customization in how users interact with these devices- in the same way owners used to customize recordings on answering machines.
