Chamberlain Updates Increase Security
Chamberlain Group has launched a new line of smart garage door openers under its LiftMaster and Chamberlain brands, featuring built-in video capabilities, two-way communication, and myQ app control. The openers offer real-time monitoring, video storage, and seamless integration with other devices working on their myQ platform. Enhanced features include ultra-quiet motors, LED lighting, and battery backup. The new models aim to improve security, convenience, and smart home compatibility.
The Circana Take:
- Increased camera functionality will add to the monitoring capabilities of Chamberlain and LiftMaster garage door systems and potentially set up advanced AI Visual Intelligence features. As the category is still gaining adoption, a greater emphasis on premium features will help fuel ownership growth.
New iPad Pros Support Thread
Apple’s M5 iPad Pro now supports Thread as Apple’s new N1 wireless chip allows it to communicate directly with Matter-enabled smart home devices. This results in faster, more reliable control of connected devices with fewer dropouts – the biggest benefits of this mesh connection. This does not make the iPad Pro a full home hub; automations still require a HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K as those devices are Thread border routers, but for now it's a powerful setup tool. Users can also scan, add, and test devices on the spot, making smart home management smoother.
The Circana Take:
- Thread compatibility will help increase awareness and presumably adoption of Matter. With HomeKit quickly expanding to more devices, even higher installed base devices like iPad will help build a foundation for Matter usage in more households. Continued education on the Matter specification along with manufacturer adoption will help the user base.
