Nanoleaf Branches Into Charging
After cutting prices earlier this year to better compete in the smart lighting market, Nanoleaf recently announced the Pegboard Desk Dock, available on Nanoleaf’s website and at Walmart in May. The Pegboard Dock is on one side a desk lamp fitted with LED lights designed to light the room, while the other side of the lamp features a perforated cover and support arms that can hold and charge devices like game controllers, smartphones, or headphones. The lamp supports one USB-A port and two USB-C outlets and can also synchronize to gameplay by mirroring the PC’s screen.
The Circana Take:
- Nanoleaf is extending into new categories as more brands crowd the smart lighting market. While the Pegboard Desk Dock is not explicitly for gamers, the device’s charging and organization capabilities (along with the programmable LED lights) make it a useful accessory for playing PC and console games, and Nanoleaf is capitalizing on its brand recognition among that segment of consumers.
Eufy Releases a New Smart Lock
Eufy broadened its portfolio of smart locks by releasing the new FamiLock S3 Max last week. The lock, which features built-in AI to alert when a visitor approaches, also offers contactless entry via palm recognition, a newer feature on the market. The palm recognition feature matches the pattern of blood vessels in one’s hand- a unique way to authenticate entrants. A 2K wide-angle on the lock allows it to act as a smart doorbell as well.
The Circana Take:
- As the security camera and smart doorbell markets continue to mature, Eufy is investing more heavily in the growing smart lock category. The addition of palm recognition for entry is a unique selling feature that will appeal to tech forward consumers as well as offer some differentiation from other products on the market.
