Tapo Aims to Shake Up the Smart Lock Market

Last month, Tapo announced their new budget smart door lock/deadbolt, the DL100 for $70. Despite its low cost, the DL100 has most of the features found in higher priced smart locks including a multiple unlocking methods, voice control via the major voice assistant applications, and connectivity via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The device is also compatible with Tapos’s smart doorbell, allowing the door to be unlocked from the doorbell’s preview screen.

The Circana Take:

  • Growing value options in the smart lock market are helping to drive adoption of the category. Tapo’s smart deadbolt does not require a significant amount of installation, is affordable, and can be re-installed on a new door if the user relocates- making it optimal for more transient consumers and renters.

Nanoleaf Makes Garden Lights

Nanoleaf has launched garden lights that, while not Wi-Fi connected, can be programmed to turn on when the sun goes down and power off at sunrise. Solar power in a garden light is an added value that benefits outdoor set-ups lacking access to a power outlet.

The Circana Take:

  • Nanoleaf’s solar garden lights represent a growing emphasis on outdoor experiences for smart home. While outdoor smart security lights and floodlights have become common, more solutions like garden lights, landscape lighting and even smart birdfeeder and insect cams have come to market, expanding options for outdoor spaces and experiences.
