This DJI Product Doesn’t Fly
DJI, the company best known for its line of drones, will reportedly release the Romo, a robotic vacuum. While making a robotic vacuum may seem uncharacteristic for a photographic drone company, DJI’s proficiency in small motors that power its drones (and its entrance into the eBike market) demonstrates the company is looking to apply its expertise in other product categories. Reports are the Romo does not have an internal tank (for mopping) suggesting the forthcoming robo vacuum will compete in the value end of the market.
The Circana Take:
- In addition to experience in motors, DJI also boasts advanced proprietary navigation and object avoidance technology - important for unmanned and automated devices.
- As the home robot market continues to evolve, DJI’s robotic vacuum could be a precursor to more assistant and surveillance products which draw upon the company’s years of innovation in unmanned mobility devices.
Nest Aware Subscription Prices Increase Again
Starting in August, Google will raise the price of Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions. According to an email sent to current subscribers, the Nest Aware Service will increase in price from $8 a month to $10 while Nest Aware Plus plans will go from $15 to $20 monthly. Though Google last raised prices in 2023, the new pricing tiers bring Nest fees in line with competing services.
The Circana Take:
- Though no specific reason was given for the price increase, Google has pushed advanced camera intelligence features- powered by Gemini- to select Home app users. The higher prices may be in anticipation of making Gemini intelligence features standard in the Aware subscription.
