Amazon’s Freevee comes to Apple TV
Freevee, Amazon’s ad-supported free streaming service formerly known as IMDbTV, is now also available on Apple TV. Users of the device will now have another option for free ad-supported television and be able to stream Amazon Studio originals such as Bosch: Legacy. Apple TV was one of the few remaining devices that wasn’t carrying the standalone app. Previously a viewer had to access the free streaming platform by going through the Amazon Prime Video app.
The NPD Take:
- Over the last couple of years, the delineation between device and service owner have continued to blur with broader distribution of content apps trumping exclusivity.
- Consumers are embracing free ad-supported television bringing the opportunity for increased ad revenue to device and service owners.
Hulu drops price to $1/month for 3-months
New and eligible returning subscribers can take advantage of new deal getting the Hulu with ads package for just $1 for 3-months. This is a discount of 86% off the current monthly rate of $6.99. The offer is available for one week, ending on May 27th.
The NPD Take:
- As subscriber growth slows, this generous deal hopes to drive new growth to Hulu especially at a time when the streamer has released new content.
- Pricing wars will likely continue to gain traction as streaming services grapple with higher acquisition and production costs coupled with cooling subscriber growth in a highly competitive market.
