2019 Home Automation Industry Overview - February 2020
Dollar sales for home automation products at retail increased 13% in 2019. Security cameras continue to drive the highest dollar sales of any home automation segment – but as this segment matures, with ownership rates now approaching 1 in 4 homes and a number of value brands readily available, growth rates have fallen by as much as half each year since 2016.
A good number of sales are going to existing smart homes rather than to brand new consumers, as nearly 3 out every 4 consumers who own home automation products owns more than one type.

The Home Automation Marketplace quarterly report provides guidance on product design and product strategies. It provides item level product detail – including product attributes and average selling prices – of the home automation products currently selling at retail. Eight product categories are included: security cameras, smart entry, smart lighting, sensors, system controllers, smart power, item trackers, and kits.
