Mobile Connectivity - November 2019

The Mobile Connectivity Report is based on consumer panel reporting, looking at attitudes towards connectivity preferences for smartphones, tablets and other mobile broadband devices. The report includes details of brand ownership, carrier market share, OEM and carrier churn analysis, device upgrade cycles, data consumption analysis, share of embedded devices and how the devices are being connected (directly, through tethering, or via mobile hotspots) as well as how much data goes through during the connection sessions. 

Promotions -

NPD Connected Intelligence’s new Promotions Marketplace report is a monthly updated tracker providing insights into a wireless carrier and national distributor's promotional incentive practices. The report provides a detailed list of all promotional activities captured via NPD’s retail and online store visits conducted on a periodical basis. Captured promotions are categorized (i.e., service plan, accessories, device discounts, BOGOs, Gift Cards, etc.) and dated (start date/end date) for easy navigation and analysis purposes.

Service Plans - January 2020

The NPD Connected Intelligence Service's Marketplace Report provides a complete view of all mobile broadband service plans offered by the nationwide carriers. This report features each carrier's service plans on smartphones and mobile broadband products in separate tabs, which provides sectional navigation to postpaid and prepaid plans. The data is gathered from multiple sources (online and retail store surveys) during the last week of each month.

Data Consumption - November 2019

  • US smartphone users consumed 33.9 GB of data on a monthly basis, slightly down from 35.2 GB in the previous month. Wi-Fi usage typically accounted for over 80% of total data consumption, though it’s been declining (74% in Q3 2019) in parallel to the increase in cellular data consumption fueled by unlimited data plans.

Data Consumption Report - February 2020

US smartphone users consumed 37.6 GB of data on a monthly basis, slightly up from 33.9 GB in the previous quarter. Wi-Fi usage typically accounted for over 80% of total data consumption, though it’s been declining (74% in Q4 2019) in parallel to the increase in cellular data consumption fueled by unlimited data plans.

Unlimited data plan customers consume more than double the amount of data consumed by a customer who is on bucket plans (i.e. 5GB or 8GB plan). Similarly, customers on postpaid accounts consume 42% more than those users who are on prepaid accounts.

CARRIER KPI Q3 '19 - December 2019

The US Mobile Carrier KPI report features trending (2009-2019) of nationwide carriers' key performance indicators for subscriber growth by contract/device type as well as mobile service revenue and churn statistics. The report also provides a detailed 5+ year trending of connected tablet connections and net additions by carrier in the US market.

Profile Report - December 2019

The consumer profile report is a bi-annual Excel-based interactive report allowing users to view consumer panel responses of various user profiles (i.e. unlocked smartphone user, carrier A customer, prepaid plan user, unlimited data plan user, demographic A user) on a series of research areas including ownership and churn of devices by OEM, purchase locations, carrier churn analysis, consumer perceptions of their carriers across various metrics.

Smartphone Usage - November 2019

The Smartphone and Tablet Usage report features a new improvement that allows our clients to analyze device usage behavior based on panelists’ service plan (Postpaid Subscriber vs. Prepaid Subscriber) and data plan type (Unlimited Plan Subscriber vs. GB Bucket Plan Subscriber). Please note that multi-criteria filtering on profiles may not yield statistically significant results due to low sample size limitations (i.e.

OEM Brand Analysis - April 2019

The NPD Connected Intelligence OEM Brand Analysis report is a bi-annual Powerpoint-based report providing extensive information on consumers’ awareness and perception towards smartphone OEM brands in the market. The report is designed to help product development teams in their smartphone brand/device ranging efforts.
