5G launched in the US 18 months ago and we are still waiting for the “killer app” to appear. We explore some of the potential use cases.
NPD Connected Intelligence’s new Promotions Marketplace report is a monthly updated tracker providing insights into a wireless carrier and national distributor's promotional incentive practices. The report provides a detailed list of all promotional activities captured via NPD’s retail and online store visits conducted on a periodical basis. Captured promotions are categorized (i.e., service plan, accessories, device discounts, BOGOs, Gift Cards, etc.) and dated (start date/end date) for easy navigation and analysis purposes.
December was a quiet month for phone launches but did see a lot of discounts.
Cricket Wireless discounts iPhone 12, and offers 12 different smartphone models for free with number transfer.
Metros by T-Mobile increase that number to 16 different models for free with number port-in.

Smart home device penetration has reached 50 percent, with one out of every two US consumers say they own at least one type of smart home device across a selection of products that may include anything from security cameras to smart doorbells to sensors that monitor for frozen water pipes. Ownership rates do vary greatly by type of device, however, and with 21% penetration, security cameras remain the most popular smart home device, drawing on that value proposition of providing safety for the family and home.

This report tracks the availability of TV network, vMVPD, streaming video service and sporting league apps on TV-connected devices. As of August ‘20, TV-connected devices were installed in 80.1 million homes. Within this report we track the availability of apps on 93 percent of those devices, depicting their reach to as many as 74.2 million homes.
The consumer profile report is a bi-annual Excel-based interactive report allowing users to view consumer panel responses of various user profiles (i.e. unlocked smartphone user, carrier A customer, prepaid plan user, unlimited data plan user, demographic A user) on a series of research areas including ownership and churn of devices by OEM, purchase locations, carrier churn analysis, consumer perceptions of their carriers across various metrics.
